Reverend Lawrence
Reverend Dr. Robert P. Lawrence has made a lasting impact on the UMass Dartmouth community, inspiring our students, faculty, staff and alumni to make a commitment to public service. His dedication to civic engagement serves as a guide to the University as we work to strengthen our community and instill the value of service in our students. In recognition of his spiritual and civic leadership spanning more than 50 years, Rev. Lawrence received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from UMass Dartmouth in 2007.
At UMass Dartmouth, the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement embodies Rev. Lawrence’s passion for community service and leadership. Through service-learning and community service, students help meet the needs of the community while developing the values and perspectives that will guide their futures. The Lawrence Faculty Service-Learning Fellows program teaches faculty best practices in service-learning. The annual Rev. Lawrence Lecture brings inspiring individuals who share in his belief of civic engagement to speak to our SouthCoast community.
Rev. Lawrence’s commitment to the community endures at UMass Dartmouth through the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement. Donations made in memory of Rev. Lawrence to the Leduc Center will support the programs that continue his legacy and inspire hope and positive change.
